Terms & Community Guidelines

Word & Witness LLC provides the Word & Witness service as a place for sincere scripture study, reflection, and respectful conversation across faith traditions.

Using Word & Witness

By creating an account or using the service, you enter into an agreement with Word & Witness LLC under these terms and our Privacy Policy. You must be at least 13 years old and legally able to agree to these terms. Keep your sign-in information secure and provide accurate account information.

Community standards

We have zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. Do not post, send, or promote:

• Harassment, threats, bullying, hate, or attacks on a person or protected group.
• Sexually explicit, exploitative, graphically violent, or otherwise unlawful content.
• Spam, scams, impersonation, malware, or deceptive information intended to cause harm.
• Another person’s private information without permission.
• Content that infringes copyright, trademark, privacy, or other rights.
• Inflammatory religious attacks or knowingly misleading quotations presented to harm others.

Disagreement is welcome; demeaning people is not. Critique ideas with care, quote sources honestly, and remember that people from different traditions may read the same passage differently.

Reporting, blocking, and moderation

Use the in-app Report option when content or conduct may violate these standards, and Block when you do not want interaction with another user. We may review, restrict, remove, or preserve content; limit features; suspend accounts; or report urgent threats when reasonably necessary to protect users or the service. Repeated or serious violations may result in permanent account removal.

Text and images intended for other users are screened automatically before sharing. Content that fails screening cannot be published. If screening is temporarily unavailable, keep your draft and try again later. You can contact Support to request human review of a mistaken decision.

Your content

You keep ownership of content you create. You give Word & Witness a limited, worldwide license to host, process, reproduce, and display that content solely to operate and improve the service according to the sharing choices you select. You represent that you have the rights needed to submit your content. This license ends when content is deleted, except for limited backup, legal, or safety retention.

Scripture and informational content

Scripture text, citations, and source information may come from public-domain or licensed sources identified in the service. Study tools and community discussion are provided for informational and devotional use and are not professional legal, medical, mental-health, or pastoral advice.

Word & Witness Plus

Personal scripture study remains available without a paid subscription. Word & Witness Plus is an optional auto-renewing monthly subscription that unlocks an unlimited owned scripture study copies, larger study groups, publication of marked scripture, and longer reflections. Free members can own up to three study groups, with up to five scripture copies in each and ten copies separately in Personal Study. Free groups include the owner plus two members (three people total). The owner's Plus allows up to 50 members per group (51 people total), unlimited owned groups, and unlimited scripture copies. Joining groups is unlimited on every plan; invited members do not need Plus. Archived groups and copies still count toward free limits. The current price and billing period are shown before purchase and may vary by storefront or currency.

Payment is charged to your app-store account when you confirm purchase. The subscription renews automatically unless canceled through that store before the renewal deadline shown by the store. Cancellation takes effect after the current paid period. When the owner's Plus expires, only groups above the free limits become view-only. The owner's three oldest groups remain eligible for free use; additional groups become view-only. Members, roles, scripture, notes, highlights, discussion, and reading progress are preserved. Collaboration can resume after renewal, a completed ownership transfer to an eligible member, or returning within the free limits. Published personal scripture becomes non-public unless it has retained publishing access. Refunds are handled under the applicable store's rules.

Service availability

We work to keep Word & Witness reliable, but the service is provided “as is” and may change, experience interruptions, or contain errors. To the extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties and are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential losses arising from use of the service.

Ending your account

You may stop using the service at any time and can permanently delete your account in mobile Settings. Deleting a Word & Witness account does not itself cancel an app-store subscription; manage or cancel the subscription through the store first if you want billing to stop. We may suspend or end access when necessary to enforce these terms, protect the community, or comply with law.

Changes

We may update these terms as Word & Witness evolves. Material changes will be posted with a new effective date and additional notice when appropriate. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised terms.
